JIM AND GRANT - A COLLECTION OF COMIC RHYMED VERSE
backyard ashes - the dvd   $25 (Includes postage and handling)

Backyard Ashes

A quintessential Aussie film - what is more Aussie than a game of cricket in the backyard?

One song, Take Me to the Backyard, was inspired by Grant's role in Backyard Ashes, which was filmed in Wagga. If you loved "The Castle", then this is the movie for you!

Grant not only has an important role but is responsible for excellent music!

STONE THE CROWS CD   $25 (Includes postage and handling)

A Farming Man - I never lived on a farm but I remember as a kid accompany my father to many farms. He had a tractor and farm machinery business. I also spent my teenage years working on farms around the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

The Pub at Pleasant Hills - I did a gig at the Pleasant Hills pub in 2010 and was amazed to find out from my father that my grandfather tried his hand at farming in the early 1900's not far from the pub.

Take Me to the Backyard - Our national passion for backyard crickets continues to live on in the nation's psyche!

Full Moon Tonight - My mate Peter Knight's father wrote in his diary about his war time experiences as a bomber navigator flying missions over Europe in World War 2. In particular he mentions how much more frightening it was when they flew in moonlight - they became much more visible to enemy fighters.

A Widow's Son - Ned Kelly's Jerilderie Letter explained his side of the story. He referred to himself in the letter as "A Widow's Son".

Dirty Old Town - A song made famous by the Pogues

Boree Creek - My old Mate Clem Gooden and I wrote some sixty songs together over a 10 year period. He was in his 80's when he started writing. He lived at Lockhart and wrote extensively about the area and the people who lived there.

Bagtown Ball - Griffith is my hometown and was called Bagtown in its early days. Many dwellings were made from hessian wheat bags. I played at many dances there in my early musical days.

Lockhart - The Verandah Town - Lockhart is Clem's home town and this is the first song we wrote together.

The Brookong Rum - This song is another co-written with Clem about a famous station that thrived in the mid 1800's and was located to the west of Lockhart.

When the Water Came In - a lot of the Riverina was affected by floods in March of 2011. Scott is a camera man for Prime TV in Wagga. He wrote this insightful song after covering the floods for the news.

Lost in Love - A great love song to finish off.

Thank you - a big Ta to Tracey, Phoebe and Sarah who have made a huge contribution to this album; the fabulous Chook Raffle Band for their mateship, all the other fine musicians who have given their creative energy to my songs, Jim Haynes for his artistic support, Angela Champion for her wonderful artwork and all those people who smile at me at gigs.

And a last thank you to my Dad, Jack Luhrs, my Auntie Dulcie Harris and Clem Gooden. I dedicate this album to them in memory of their roles in enriching my creative life.
